What information does each panel provide?
Rabies Titer - measures the ability of antibodies present in a blood sample to neutralize and block rabies virus from infecting the cells used in the test. These antibodies are called rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVNA). If the test results show a large number of infected cells, few antibodies are present in the blood; conversely, if the test shows little evidence of infection, the number of antibodies present in the blood is high. The purpose of the test is to help determine whether a rabies vaccination is needed. Additionally, it is useful for monitoring vaccine efficacy over time, ensuring protection remains adequate between booster doses, and identifying individuals who may have a suboptimal immune response to previous vaccinations.
Rabies Endpoint (RFFIT) – provides the quantitative level of immune response of rabies antibodies in the blood. The endpoint is calculated from the percentage of virus-infected areas observed within the cells containing the various dilutions of the sample on the slide. Endpoints are more helpful when attempting to determine exact antibody levels, especially if the following are of concern:
- Anticipated risk of exposure (i.e., routinely handling sick animals or rabies reservoir species in enzootic areas)
- Length of time until the next antibody measurement
- Previous rabies antibody levels and the probability of decay to low or undetectable levels in the intervening period
- Individual health status (consider immunocompromising conditions or a history of poor vaccine response)
- Timely access to vaccine and administration should a potential exposure occur
Chem 20/CHD Panel – evaluates organ function, glucose levels, and electrolytes. This panel can help assess your overall health status, diagnose medical conditions, and monitor the effects of certain medications. (Fasting: 8-12 hours recommended.)
HS-CRP – measures inflammation, often linked to heart disease.
CBC with Differential – Assesses red and white blood cells, detecting anemia and infections. (Fasting: 8-12 hours recommended.)
Thyroid Profile I – panel measures the levels of thyroid hormones (T-3 and T-4) and thyroid-stimulating hormones (TSH) concentration in the blood. The results help diagnose disorders like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and autoimmune thyroid diseases, guiding healthcare professionals in determining appropriate interventions and treatments.
Vitamin D Panel – Evaluates bone and immune health. It is used to evaluate your vitamin D status and monitor the effectiveness of treatments for vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to weakened bones and other health problems.
Hemoglobin A1C – Tracks blood sugar levels over 2-3 months to monitor diabetes. It is used to diagnose and monitor diabetes, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments aimed at managing blood sugar levels.
PSA (Men Only) – Screens for prostate cancer risk. Healthcare providers commonly use this test to screen for prostate cancer and monitor the effectiveness of treatments for prostate cancer.
